YouTuber Restore Technique has uploadeda immensely detailed 27-minute videodemonstrating his personal PlayStation 4 handheld project. Using a 3D-printed custom shell, some custom PCBs, a 7-inch screen, and the original PlayStation 4 Slim console motherboard, Restore Technique was able to create a true handheld PlayStation 4 (249 x 156 x 49.2mm and 1.7 Kg). Some would say that compared to the streaming-onlyPlayStation Portal, this is far and away the better successor to the PlayStation Vita....

JEDEC’s new CAMM2 memory design has been primarily advertised as a laptop-designed memory module. While that may be the case, not many know that the CAMM2 JEDEC standard also features desktop support. MSI has partnered with Kingston to purportedly build theworld’s first Z790 desktop motherboard with CAMM2 memory. The new board will be showcased atComputex2024 early next month. The board, called the Z790 Project Zero Plus, features a black and silver finish....

MSI has been hard at work tuning its new Claw handheld gaming PC. The device maker has publishedanother BIOS update for the Claw in under a month that improves performance by up to 30%. Performance has improved to the point where MSI states its Claw handheld is now capable of outperforming the Ryzen Z1 powered ROG Ally in most of the top 100 most popular Steam titles played right now, though we’ll want to see that in some independent testing....

GPU detective@Harukaze5719 on X (Twitter)has uncovered the existence of a new GPU, codenamed “Skinny Joe,” sporting an extremely high 700W TDP. The monstrous TDP aligns with Nvidia’s outgoing H100 and incomingH200, which also sports the same power rating. That leads us to suspect that, rather than aiming to be one of thebest graphics cardsfor gaming, ‘Skinny Joe’ is more likely an updatedenterpriseGPU rather than a potential RTX 4090 Ti/Super.Assuming we’re correct, while this new enterprise GPU could be anything, the codename suggests it might be a revised Hopper H200 GPU with smaller packaging....

Multiple Nintendo Switch 2 owners, most notably in Japan, are reporting problems with the console overheating during gameplay, leading to crashes and freezes. The problem, as noted byNintendo Soup, includes playing hefty new titles like Cyberpunk 2077, but also less hardware-intensive titles like Pokémon and Splatoon. According to the report, users are reporting game freezes and crashes, as well as fans going into overdrive to try and dissipate heat. The next-generation Nvidia Blackwell GPU architecture and RTX 50-series GPUs are coming, basically on schedule. Nvidia officially detailed the first four cards in theBlackwell RTX 50-series family at CES 2025, during CEO Jensen Huang’s keynote on January 6. Nvidia is halting development of its dual-rack 72-wayGB200-based NVL36×2, to focus on the single-rack NVL72 and NVL36, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo over atMedium. The single-rack NVL36 and NVL72 machines will arrive to market as planned, with the decision said to be driven by limited resources and customer preferences.
