AMD announced the new Ryzen Z2 series of processors today atCES2025, mostly ticking the boxes for what we already expected to see. The parts will launch during Q1 2025, with three models available. All come with a configurable TDP range starting at 15W and extending up to 30W for the lower-tier parts and 35W for the new Z2 Extreme.Details on the new processors are relatively thin. While they superficially appear to be Z2 variants of the existing Strix Point lineup, they’ve been tweaked to customize the designs and improve power efficiency....

AMD’s EPYC processors and overclocking typically don’t go together in a sentence. However, overclockerSergmannhas demonstrated that you can overclock EPYC chips if you’re doing it with the correct SKU. However, even more interesting is that the overclocker got the EPYC 4124P to work on an AM5 motherboard that doesn’t officially support it. The EPYC 4124P is part of AMD’s entry-levelEPYC 4004processors for the AM5 platform. However, many consider these chips a rebrand of the mainstreamRyzen 7000chips withenterprisefeatures, such as support for ECC memory....

Even though AMD’s AM5 platform is designed to support all features of DDR5 memory modules, including CUDIMMs, the company’s existing Ryzen 7000 cannot work with CUDIMMs at all, whereas Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 9000-series CPUs do not fully support such modules. AMD’s GPUOpen team has announced its plans to present its new paper, “Neural Texture Block Compression,” at the Eurographics Symposium on Rendering (EGSR) on July 2nd.
