Your Wi-Fi can now double as a home security system — Gamgee uses home Wi-Fi networks for intruder detection

Dutch startup Gamgee has launched a crowdfunding campaign for a homesecuritysystem that detects physical intruders using your existing Wi-Fi system. Using a home mapping app and artificial intelligence, Gamgee’sWi-Fi Home Alarmis claimed to offer precision protection by ‘body printing’ the household’s trusted people and pets. Alarms can be configured to detect body prints with unrecognized mass, gait, or movement signatures, thus triggering an alarm. As you can see in the video above, Gamgee’s tech promises to bring new meaning to the term ‘Wi-Fi security’ in the home thanks to its physical intrusion technology....

2D quantum cooling system reaches temperatures colder than outer space by converting heat into electrical voltage

A research team at theSwiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EFPL)developed a 2D quantum cooling system that allowed it to reduce temperatures to 100 millikelvins by converting heat into electrical voltage. Very low temperatures are crucial for quantum computing, as quantum bits (qubits) are sensitive to heat and must be cooled down to less than 1K. Even the thermal energy generated by the electronics needed to run the quantum computer has been known to impact the performance of qubits....
