Intel lays the groundwork for Xe3 Celestial graphics — Panther Lake CPU enablement in Linux has begun

Intel engineers have been spotted working on Xe3 (codenamed Celestial) enablement in Linux’s grand archive of all mail that affects kernel development. The latest update to thedrm-xe-nextpull request, dated June 02, 2025, was flagged byPhoronixafter it showed several references to Xe3. This probably means that driver development for this GPU architecture has begun for Linux, even though discrete Xe2 Battlemage GPUs are yet to hit the market. The Xe2 graphics just arrived on the market as iGPUs inside theIntel Core 200V(codenamed Lunar Lake) chips, four years after the launch of the first Intel Xe architecture in 2020 and two years after the arrival of the first generationIntel Arc Alchemistdiscrete GPUs....

Intel reportedly denies RMA for crashing Core i9-14900K CPU due to liquid metal thermal paste usage — liquid metal erased the markings and serial number on the CPU

If you own an Intel 13th GenerationRaptor Lakeor 14th GenerationRaptor Lake RefreshCPU, you may want to think twice before using liquid metal as a thermal paste. The latest report fromHKEPCclaims that Intel has reportedly denied an RMA request for aCore i9-14900Kdue to the usage of liquid metal. The Core i9-14900K owner had reportedly approached Synnex, a retailer in Hong Kong, to RMA his 24-core Raptor Lake Refresh chip because it had suffered from theinfamous instability issues....

Intel says Arc Xe4 Druid GPUs are already in the works — Software optimization is the only remaining step for Xe3 Celestial as it approaches launch with Panther Lake

Theannouncementof Battlemage two days prior refuted industry-wide rumors that Intel was planning to sunset discrete Arc GPUs. After the fact, enthusiasts are already speculating about the next generation, namely Celestial. Tom Peterson from Intel AKA “TAP” joinedThe Full Nerd Podcastyesterday and confirmed that Arc isn’t going anywhere - anytime soon with Celestial Xe3 “baked” on the architectural level and hardware teams already working on next-next-gen Xe4 Druid GPUs. Cutting off the graphics division never made sense as that’d make Intel’s mobile offerings highly uncompetitive compared to AMD, and even Snapdragon now....

Intel to get $3.5 billion infusion from U.S. gov't to make chips for military: Report

The U.S. government is set to invest $3.5 billion in Intel to boost the production of advanced chips for military and intelligence purposes, reportsBloomberg. The payment could be a part of arumored total incentive package exceeding $10 billionfrom theU.S. CHIPS and Science Act(encompassing both grants and loans) or could be a part of theproposed Secure Enclave projectthat is designed for military and intelligence chips and is funded separately. The investment involves funding the Secure Enclave program for three years and is poised to make Intel a leading semiconductor player in the defense market....

Intel's Meteor Lake CPUs are slower at single-core work than previous-gen models — new benchmarks show IPC regressions vs Raptor Lake

Benchmarkspublished by hardware testerDavid Huangreveal that Intel’s latest Meteor Lake CPUs may actually have lower instructions-per-clock (IPC) than 13th and 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs. Meteor Lake’s somewhat disappointing CPU performance already confirmed that it didn’t feature an impressive IPC boost, but it’s looking more like these cutting-edge chips have actually seen a regression.IPC is a key indicator of architectural improvements when comparing CPUs of one generation to another. Being able to do more work in a clock cycle is generally good, and it indicates a design has improved over its predecessor....

Lam Research unveils Dextro, a maintenance robot for fabs

On Tuesday, Lam Researchintroducedits Dextro collaborative robot (cobot), which promises to enable accurate and repeatable maintenance of fab tools. Typical wafer fabrication facilities house hundreds of tools that require complex maintenance regularly. Accuracy in tool maintenance is essential, as the precise assembly of subsystems directly impacts yields. However, human beings are not as accurate as machines, but until recently, they used to be the only option. Dextro is a mobile robotic unit with an arm equipped with interchangeable end-effectorsfor three key maintenance tasks....

Lenovo has tons of new gaming laptops and PCs for CES 2024, ranging from $749 to $4,399 — most have new 14th Gen Intel processors.

Lenovo brought a large swath of gaming PCs to Las Vegas forCES, including a set of laptops and new towers across its premier Legion line and its more affordable, entry level Loq (pronounced “lock”) collection.Unlike several of its competitors, it appears that Lenovo is entirely eschewing Intel’s “Meteor Lake” Core Ultra chips entirely in favor of the company’s 14th Gen HX-series processors with faster clock speeds, as well as some of AMD’s latest 8040-series “Hawk Point” chips....

Meet Flexduino, a DIY Arduino replica that bends and flexes

Single-board computers (or SBCs) like theRaspberry PiandArduinojust keep getting smaller. But sometimes that doesn’t quite fit the bill. If you’re looking for something with a little more flexibility, you might want to check out this awesome custom Arduino PCB put together by maker and developer Rajesh K T with Edison Science Corner known as theFlexduino. Rajesh is no stranger to making his own PCBs, especially ones inspired by the Arduino. After working on making a few variants over the years, he decided to create an Arduino replica that had a bit more bend than your average circuit board....

Meta is reportedly testing its first RISC-V based AI chip for AI training

Meta was one of the first companies to build its RISC-V-based chips for AI inference several years ago to cut costs and reduce reliance on Nvidia.Reutersreports that the company went one step further and designed (presumably with Broadcom’s assistance) its in-house accelerator for AI training. If the chip meets Meta’s goals, it may reduce its reliance on high-end Nvidia AI GPUs —such asH100/H200andB100/B200—for training advanced large-language models. Meta and Broadcom have taped out Meta’s first AI training accelerator with TSMC; the latter produced the first working samples of these chips, and the partners have successfully brought up the unit, according to the report....
